As a creator of high tech worlds in his speculative fiction (SF) books, Harlan wants his web presence to be leading edge. He's chosen the Open Source application WordPress, which has expanded from it's original existence as a blogging engine, to a fairly comprehensive site creation tool. Hundreds of templates are available and customization can be very simple. Harlan also recognizes the need for the use of "new media" for communication with his readers and has installed word press plug-ins to support both podcasting and video.

WordPress can be used in two ways:

• as a hosted service at www.wordpress.com
• as free software installed on your own website account server (We're going to assume that Harlan has taken this option and installed WordPress on his own domain.)

Some Recommendations:

• add a special section with links to SF/Fantasy conventions and confabs
• get a Facebook account and create a fan page
• set up to distribute his podcasts through iTunes or another third-party
• create a YouTube account for his video add-ons
