Ollie's Online Art Gallery

ollie screenshotThe main thing Ollie wants to accomplish with his web presence is to sell his artworks. The Coppermine gallery is an Open Source script that can be installed for free on most hosting services. It is a flexible gallery that allows the creation of any number of categories and subcategories, and supports audio and video media in addition to images.  The Coppermine site will get Ollie's works to the public, but it doesn't allow much space for Ollie to talk about himself or other parts of his business. However, since many Open Source programs have additional plug-ins available, we were able to find one that added a mini-page to the gallery's home page.

To run this program, Ollie set up a Linux web hosting account and registered the domain name ollieorbweaver.com

For Ollie to really be able to sell his work on-line, he would need to do one of the following:

  • engage with a third party to handle the ordering, production, and distribution of his prints
  • engage a third party to handle the shopping cart and financial transactions (e.g. PayPal) and do the shipping himself.
  • install his own shopping cart software and work with either PayPay or a bank gateway for payment processing, then ship the product himself.
  • Some combination of the above.

Some Recommendations:

  • on the same hosting account, create a more informational website by adding a WordPress blog
  • -- or -- create a Blogger blog with a link to his gallery site.
  • being an artist, he would definitely want to replace the "Coppermine" logo with one of his own.
